little before 4-30 this morning. police say the suspect pointed a gun at a cashier, and ordered her to fill a backpack with money. witnesses say the suspect is a white male in his thirties. he's five feet eight inches tall, with dark hair, and black face paint. ### reno police are also asking for your help finding a woman who robbed a jacksons convenience store on stead boulevard. the robbery happened around 2-30 sunday morning. the clerk told police the robber is a white or hispanic female, between 18 and 20 years old with a heavier build. she was last seen wearing a black hat with an "s" on it, blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. the suspect left in a silver four door sedan with black rims with an undisclosed amount of cash. anyone with information should call secret witness at 322- 4900. secret witness is offering a fifteen hundred dollar reward.

process. now attempts to clean it up are stirring controversy again. kolo 8 news now's ed pearce is here to explain. ed, this newest controversy centers on just a small portion of the old mine. just 260 of the 34- hundred acres. the last portion used. 00-:12 :123-:17 :17-1:17 almost since the last operator pulled out, the old mine has worried and divided some of its neighbors. ten years ago, some were already pressing for a clean up. pauley: "wqer're not for superfund necessarily the blm closed the site to the public and a lawsuit was filed. atlantic richfield which had

responsibility for managing the mine as a superfund site. tailings were covered to keep toxic dust from blowing into the surrounding valley and ponds containing a highly acidic solution were lined, but those ponds are filling with sediment and it's estimated they could overflow into the ground water by 2019. and the company which created this particular problem is long gone. so the epa wants to put it on their national priority list which could mean the feds would pick up 90 percent of the cost. there have always been those here who have been concerned about the impact the superfund designation would have on property values and economic development. the possibility of this new listing has renewed those fears. so the local community and the governor are asking the epa to give them more time to find alternative sources of funding. in order to put the site in line for funding before that 2019 deadline, the process would have to start this year. the governor is asking them to hold off until september giving

no matter who picks up the bill containing the source of those acidic ponds won't come cheap. it's estimated at $31 million dollars. nevada caucuses are the first in the west, and an important gage of how voters here feel about the crop of presidential candidates. with the nation's focus on nevada, both parties are determined to have their events-- snafu free. a lot of the success will depend on the volunteer base-- the parties can drum up, between now and caucus day. the repubican caucus chair here in washoe county, says many people are calling headquarters-- asking where they can volunteer. they'll have 28 caucus locations on february 23rd. democrats say-- their training session are a great way to get volunteers, and because they have more than 60-locations for their febraury 20th event, they need more bodies. " i'd say especially at some of the bigger sites, we need

volunteers and i've been working on getting volunteers for each site." way to reno this weekend... to celebrate chinese new year. today is the official start to the lunar new year... but the celebrations last for the next several days. downtown casinos have already been transformed for the chinese new year celebrations. not only decorations, but casinos have also brought out more pai gow and baccarat tables... both traditional chinese games. the casinos will also play off other chinese traditions. "all of the guests probably will come with their families, their children, and they will celebrate together and have a concert, have some chinese traditional food, and win some money." the eldorado and the

feature several lion dances throughout the day on saturday and sunday. both casinos will also have a traditional chinese feast at the buffet. the super bowl brought big money to local sports books. the nevada gaming control board, released these figures today. 132-point-5-million dollars was wagered-- in 194 sports books, in the silver state. that's up from last year. in 2015, the total amount of wagers was over 115-million dollars. the gaming board says sports books made about 13-million dollars. ### the iconic actor james dean would have celebrated his 85th birthday today.
